The main motivation behind the first research area, "Economic and Social Dynamics," is to derive optimal economic policy for current and future economic challenges, such as economic transformation through artificial intelligence or the pursuit of sustainable and inclusive prosperity. This area also covers classic questions of public finance and optimal taxation.
The second research area focuses on the design of political institutions for maximum prosperity in societies and on how fair collective decisions can be achieved in pluralistic and increasingly polarised societies.
Methodologically, the Graz Schumpeter Centre designs and analyses theoretical economic models, gains insights from empirical analyses and numerical simulations and, depending on the issue at hand, supplements the economic approaches with interdisciplinary research approaches where appropriate.
